Plasencia is a very big name in the tobacco industry, and Plasencia's story has many comparisons with other cigar families currently located in Esteli, Nicaragua. The roots of the Plasencia family are also found in Cuba where there have been several generations in the tobacco industry. Like many others at that time, the Plasencia family also fled from Cuba, Nestor Plasencia sr, in 1959 after the revolution. Was only 9 years old. In Nicaragua, the activities in the tobacco industry continued until the 80's. Then the Plasencia were again expelled, this time by the Sandinista. Plasencia fled to Honduras to rebuild tobacco and after the Sandinista was expelled, Plasencia also returned to Nicaragua in the 90's. Plasencia is famous for the tobacco they grow and the cigars they make for other producers. The two largest producers who have cigars made at Plasencia are Alec Bradley and Rocky Patel. Another famous cigar from Plasencia's plants is Casa Magna, a collaboration of Plasencia with Manuel Quesada. The Robusto of this cigar was even proclaimed a cigar of the year by Cigar Aficionado. Under its own name, Plasencia produces two cigars, the Reserva Organica and the Reserva 1898.
