The Fuente family originated from Cuba where Arturo Fuente senior took over his father's profession of making cigars.
Carlos Fuente senior was practically born in the cigar making industry and not long after taking over his father's company, Carlos junior (Carlito) was born. He also followed the footsteps of his father.
After the family Fuente left Cuba and then Tampa, they opened a factory in Nigaragua. Unfortunately, this factory was burned to the ground by Sandinist rebels. Later a second factory in Honduras was destroyed by fire.
In 1980, the Fuentes opened their first factory in the Dominican Republic with seven employees. At the moment, it has grown to having more than two thousand employees in six factories.
